M51 Revisited
I had done a nice M51 from JBSPO, but it had some focus and coliimation issues. So having fixed collimation and adjusting focus, I shot this series from a dark sky site in southern Ohio. Location: Near Woodland Alters Campground, 25 x 180s images, stacked in DSS, Canon 350D DSLR, Conditions were excellent.

Nice M51 shot,
How far is your dark site from Dayton?
Focus and collimation look good man!
Nice job.

This location is a few miles
This location is a few miles from Woodland Altars Campground in Adams County. I use the Woodland Alters listing from the dark sky siyes online. We have our camper at a private campground and on a New Moon night, you typically can easily see the dust clouds in the Milky Way. Last night was so dark and clear, you could easily make out the nebulosity naked eye in Orion before it set.
Wow, that really shows what
Wow, that really shows what you can do from a reasonably dark site. I do all my imaging from my back yard right on the border between Kettering and Dayton (where it's kinda sorta dark off to the east except when McDonald's is having a sale and has a spotlight going) and I've just about given up using my DSLR for anything but stellar objects.
Excellent image!

If 50 years of amateur astronomy and space exploration has taught me anything it is that the Earth is a very special place. It would be nice to protect it like it’s the only Earth we’re ever going to have.
