New Arrival...

What weighs almost 160 pounds and comes from Meade in two large beat-up boxes?

My shiny new Lightbridge 16!

My shiny new Lightbridge 16! This picture was taken while it is waiting for first light. I was actually lucky that it was cloudy when it first arrived as it allowed me to take my time putting it together and getting everything aligned. The most involved part of the assembly was putting the mount together, which wasn’t much. I had it up on its feet in about an hour, then spent the rest of the evening fiddling with it.

Note my first Lightbridge accessory; a nice clean platform to put it on. I never liked putting my Dobs directly on the ground where they can get exposed to a lot of moisture, so I always make a sturdy platform to put them on. This one is a 34”x1/2” disk of exterior grade plywood with a triangle of 2x4 studs attached to the bottom with glue and deck screws.

If 50 years of amateur astronomy and space exploration has taught me anything it is that the Earth is a very special place. It would be nice to protect it like it’s the only Earth we’re ever going to have.

Very nice John. How are you

Very nice John. How are you going to attach it to the Atlas?

I'm thinking about using a 6"

I'm thinking about using a 6" dovetail that I scavenged of off an SN6. You know, the one that kept dropping my scope. Smile
